We’ve been working with Emily for ten years or more – we met down south but are now based in Berwick Upon Tweed. Initially we sought financial advice because we’d sold some company shares and so had a large pot of money that we needed to do something sensible with.
We had a pension and a variety of fairly safe investments. Emily took real interest in us and started to make some positive suggestions about better things we could do with our money. She helped us with other issues too – now we don’t have to worry about tax returns, she’s helped to set up a trust fund for our grandchildren, and now everything ticks over.
The main thing she’s done is to help us see how our funds are. We’re fortunate that we have a big pension pot and it’s been invested well; what’s she’s shown us is that we’re very safe, we have more than enough to last until we’re at least 100 years old, taking account of a variety of eventualities.
What she’s brilliant at is helping people who aren’t financially minded feel confident that what’s she’s proposing is ok. She’s very interested in us as people and in our family. Through our regular meetings we really feel we’re cared for. She’s not trying to make us do anything we don’t want to do, but she’s not afraid of suggesting things – she doesn’t give you platitudes, she tells you what’s needed.
She’ll work out what areas in life we may want help with and say, ‘Have you thought about perhaps having a cleaner?’ Which we have done! Coming from her, this brilliant suggestion gave us permission. It’s not desperately expensive, but we’ve been cautious all our lives and it sometimes feels wrong to spend money on ourselves. But we’ve got to the point where we’ve got everything we need now and we can start to enjoy it.
We’ve had a few family issues setting up a few other bits, but we know we can trust Emily to help with that. She’s the sort of person we can share things with. Lots of personal things have a financial implication it’s great to know there’s someone there that will advise us wisely in that situation.
